Discover Your Hover - Arm Balance Workshop with Jess Burn

Discover Your Hover - Arm Balance Workshop with Jess Burn

In this workshop we will develop fundamental tools and together we will Discover Your Hover!

Arm balances can be empowering postures that teach us not only about our inner strength, but about our innate playfulness, courage, and our ability to create lightness and space. Students often over-rely on force when working on these poses, rather than understanding the mechanics and leverage of arm balances. A good understanding of correct alignment will help you practice them with integrity and without injury. This eye opening experience will leave you with a new sense of adventure and playfulness within your practice!

A fun, engaging workshop designed to suit all levels of practitioners!

Date: October 23, 2016

Time: 2:00pm-3:30pm

Investment: $30

Location: Firefly Hot Yoga

Sign up online or in studio before October 15th, and save $10!

Flow and Pokemon Go Night

After the 6:30 pm Power class a group of us will be pulling out our phones and traversing the downtown streets together for a little Pokemon Go. You don't have to attend the class to join in on the Pokemon Go, just plan on meeting at the studio after class. We plan on walking around for an hour and then settling in to a local establishment (TBD) for some beverages and grub.

Just a little reason to get out and enjoy our city and community on a summer night.

The plan:

Meet at Firefly Hot Yoga Bar in the lobby between 7:30 and 8:00 - we will depart the studio at 8 and hit the streets. We plan on walking around for an hour and then we will all pick a place hangout for a bit.

ALL are welcome! Bring a friend or two and feel free to share this with others who may be interested.

Why not? Any chance to get outside and enjoy the company of others is a golden opportunity if you ask me:)

What if?

If the weather isn't working in our favor we will reschedule for the following week.

Foundational Asana Workshop (3 part series)

Foundational Asana Workshop (3 week series)

Improve your practice and keep your body safe as you flow. Come to the Foundational Asana Three Week Series, to learn and develop your postures. A solid foundation will help you move through your favorite classes with the knowledge of how the posture feels in your body. For beginners and experienced practioners that want to reaffirm the basics. This is a great way to learn or get a refresher on the basics of asanas in an intimate non-competitive environment. Sam Wilbur will guide you through the fundamentals of alignment and breath work as you begin to work on building a foundation for your physical practice.

This series is an open format and questions and open dialogue are encouraged. Please register in advance as a minimum registration number is needed in order to keep the workshop on the schedule.

About the Instructor - Sam Wilbur

Yoga is more than physical fitness. It is more than asana. When practiced consciously, Yoga opens a person up to a space beyond the body. Yoga can improve overall health, not by decreasing the size of the body, but by increasing comfort and the self-value of the body one is in.

I prefer to share Yoga in a one-on-one setting in order to customize the practice for the individual's unique needs. When I do teach to groups, the classes are slow moving to ensure safety, and to encourage individual exploration of the posture.

My focus is in Yoga for women's health, and Yoga for trauma. I am currently training at the 500 level with a emphasis on these areas. I am a fully insured 200RYT, with 32 hours of continued education in ascension Yoga. I have also completed my Master's of Clinical Social Work and have trained as a sexual health therapist. I have worked with a variety of populations including: substance abuse and recovery, trauma survivors, and at-risk youth.

Introduction to the Chakras of the Body
3:00pm 3:00pm

Introduction to the Chakras of the Body

Chakras are the energy centers of our bodies. From the root chakra at the base of our spine to the crown chakra at the top of our head, these energy centers play an integral part in our physical, mental, and spiritual health. In this workshop Greg will explain what the chakras are, what their purpose is, how they can become blocked, and ways we can unblock them to create harmony and balance in our bodies and lives. Greg will focus mainly on the seven chakras in the body, but will touch on the five esoteric chakras outside the body. See Greg's bio on our website for insight into his background and expertise.
